In the wake of 9/11, a mystery ship was found under the remnants of the World Trade Center in 2010. It is a Dutch designed harbor sloop, built in Philadelphia. It was designed to ferry passengers through shallow and rocky waters. Based on an analysis of the wood and its tree ring data, the ship was built around 1773 out of white oak. Independence Hall in Philadelphia was also made of white oak. As of 2021, the remains were undergoing research at Texas A&M University. When research is concluded, the ship’s remains will be sent to the State Museum in Albany, NY.
